A Pittsburg, PA area engineering firm that is seeking a Commissioning Project Manager to lead high-performance MEP commissioning (Cx) services across the full building lifecycle. This is a role designed for a technical expert who can not only execute complex functional performance testing but also manage client relationships, project budgets, and the professional development of junior staff. The Ideal Candidate would be the primary advocate for the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), ensuring that complex systems in Healthcare and Higher Education environments operate at peak efficiency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Full-Lifecycle Cx: Lead design reviews, generate Cx plans/specifications, and manage the commissioning issues log from pre-design through occupancy.
  • Systems Verification: Review submittals, conduct site visits for installation verification, and develop/witness rigorous functional performance testing (FPT).
  • Technical Auditing: Perform retro-commissioning and energy service evaluations for existing buildings; produce high-level technical reports and peer reviews.

Project & Business Management

  • Project Oversight: Act as the primary PM for Cx projects—handling project start-ups, contract management, and billing.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Manage project efforts to maintain strict budget expectations and communicate scope clearly to stakeholders.
  • Business Development: Support fee development and participate in RFPs/pursuits to secure new work (Seller-Doer model).

Mentorship & Team Growth

  • Leadership: Mentor junior staff in both technical Cx execution and project management fundamentals.
  • Quality Control: Assign workflows, track progress, and provide the feedback loop necessary for team growth.

Experience & Education

  • Standard Path: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related construction field) with 10+ years of dedicated Cx experience.
  • Alternative Path: 15+ years of MEP construction implementation and system startup experience.
  • Industry Focus: Proven track record in Healthcare and Higher Education building systems.

Certifications & Licensure (High Priority)

  • Professional Cx: CxA, BCxP, CCP, or CxPP (Highly Preferred)
  • Engineering: Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT/FE status.
  • Sustainability: Experience with LEED project commissioning and associated documentation.

Technical Skill Set

  • Client Mastery: Proficient with Building Automation Systems as they relate to commissioning sequences.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection codes.
  • Mobility: Ability to travel regionally to job sites for hands-on testing and verification
